Gnome & Faerie is a rustic gathering place on SE Hawthorne where botanical drinks, seasonal food, and warm hospitality meet.
Located in a Victorian home at 3257 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Gnome & Faerie blends old-world atmosphere with an evolving kitchen inspired by Persian, Central European, and Pacific Northwest flavors.
The project was created by husband-and-wife team Shay and Eva Hosseinion as an extension of Brewed By Gnomes — Shay’s long-developing botanical beverage project focused on culinary-driven beers, herbs, flowers, fermentation, and curious elixirs.
New Menu Now Serving
Chef José Sabas joins the Gnome & Faerie kitchen with a new menu of seasonal old-world plates,
organic ingredients, rustic comfort, and botanical pairings.
Shay and Eva also operate Elderflower Medicine, a holistic clinic located upstairs in the same building. Their shared philosophy around integrity, hospitality, and thoughtful sourcing informs both spaces — bringing together food, drink, atmosphere, and care under one roof.
The beverage program features botanical infused beers, wines, shrubs, teas, seasonal spritzes, and nonalcoholic offerings designed to complement the food and atmosphere of the space. Signature creations have included a cherry blossom pilsner, elderflower elderberry IPA, herbal aperitif-style drinks, and house botanical refreshers.
The kitchen is now entering a new chapter with Chef José Sabas, whose background bridges family-rooted hospitality, California’s ingredient-driven food culture, and Central European dining traditions. Raised working in his father’s restaurant, José later cut his teeth at Los Angeles’ acclaimed SQIRL before spending time studying and cooking within Central Europe’s bistro and fine dining world.
Together, Shay, Eva, and José draw collaborative inspiration from their cultural backgrounds and shared love of old-world cooking, fermentation, herbs, seasonality, and communal gathering. The result is a kitchen that transforms familiar traditions into something transportive — rustic yet refined, grounded yet imaginative — creating dishes that feel as though they emerged from another world entirely: the world of gnomes and faeries.
Gnome & Faerie approaches food and drink through storytelling, atmosphere, seasonality, and hospitality — drawing inspiration from taverns, apothecaries, hearth cooking, and old-world gathering spaces.
Designed as an intimate neighborhood destination, Gnome & Faerie aims to create an immersive experience where craft beverages, seasonal plates, and old-world ambiance come together in a uniquely Portland setting.
